The Nature of Our Times

The Nature of Our Times: Poems on America’s Lands, Waters, Wildlife, and other Natural Wonders

This Poets for Science anthology, originally envisioned as a companion to the first national nature assessment now the work of United by Nature, gathers 210 voices from the arts, ecology, academia and Indigenous communities from North America giving witness to how nature shapes our lives and how we can shape our future.

This reading on The Poets Corner brings together 12 poets including the editors of the anthology, to read their poems and talk about the meaning of artists responding to today’s environment.

You might be wondering: who or what are The Poets for Science? Poets for Science is a global community initiative exploring the connection between science and poetry. Founded by poet and environmental spokesperson Jane Hirshfield, Poets for Science is both an exhibit and a movement exploring the connections between poetry and science.

Poetry and science are allies, not opposites. —Jane Hirshfield
