Twenty Lines About Twenty Years

by Dd Swan

The world feels right when I’m with you,
The landscape of life enhanced.
Travels down the highways and by-ways
with a roadmap drawn by our own hands
to places where we can simply be,
sweet intervals of contentment.

It’s not always easy.

I have come to trust the process,
the familiarity of hitting a boundary
navigating around it,
getting stuck between the rock and the hard place
crossing the deserts, bushwhacking
through rough terrain, those most resistant
paths where we stand naked.

The brightest sun illuminates the sheer awe of arrival,
affirmation of staying on this journey
together, bumbling through it all,
how the hell did we pull this off?
