Saturday Morning Thoughts at Your Doorway Watching You Sleep

BY SUSAN TENNEY

What are you dreaming my young one?

I found a damp towel on the floor in

the bathroom after your late-night shower

Run, running, kick-a-jump through the field at

the game, and swagger over a bottle of water

Scoured for snacks like a bronco

What dreams buck beneath?

Pushing your heart, you paint in red

Lift your violin when asked

Stretch your limbs on dirt loved walks-

hiking through scruffy grass, over Penobscot

Look – silently above you

a falcon flies, flip turn, flip

turn in your dreams,

blue-cocooned-

I know your sweet sweaty head...

I’ll see you when you rise.
