Hey, Charlie, Welcome Back

BY BETH FOX

from the Afterfuture

to the tune of DeLorean

a Covid stirred melody

Who’s gonna listen?

“know what it’s all about

the future we’re after

the future that’s a shout

outlasting the hereafter

for the song I wrote

and never sang

the screenplay in the trash

the dance I almost danced

Charlie, tell me how

-spare me the suture-

how I can welcome

the before Afterfuture

when the rest want guns

 and a mouthful of gold

Damn! Everything for sale

 grows old.

Thank you, Gideon Bok,

For introducing me to

Mike Ladd and hip-hop.
