Long the Road We Travelled

by Astra Crompton

Long the road we travelled

bound in our weathered cloaks

our fingers laced with dreams

our hearts trapped in our throats.

Your footsteps softly falling

in tempo matched with mine

a sign our souls are destined

for all the happiness we’ll find.

So, kiss me, bonny sweetheart

loose your song into the night

Loving heavens smile upon us

and fate holds our course a-right.
